Ghanaian Actress and writer  Lydia Forson had disclosed to BBC, after a powerful Hollywood movie producer, Harvey Weinstein, faced allegations of sexual misconduct from more than a thousand women and three of rape.

Movie star Lydia Forson has opened up on allegations of sexual harassment in the Ghanaian movie industry, revealing that a movie producer once asked her to show him her breast for a role she was auditioning for.

Forson told BBC that she walked out following the demand.

She said “Earlier in my career just once, small time producer who asked to see my breast for a role I was auditioning for and I said NO and walked out,” she told the BBC.

According to her, sexual harassment is common and cuts across everywhere, saying women face sexual advances from men in powerful positions.

She said “It’s unfortunate that it’s very common but it cuts across everywhere. Women are subjected to unwanted sexual advances from men in powerful positions especially who want to take advantage of their vulnerability,”.

Further stating that ,“In Africa where there’s a lot of poverty and people are looking for jobs, they know how to feed on peoples desperation.”

She also narrated a harrowing experience of a young lady who walked up to her to complain of sexual advances from movie producers.

Lydia further added. “An actress walked up to me and said she’s been trying to break up into the industry for several years but every producer wants to sleep with her and they named some big actresses that they slept with before giving them roles and threaten them if they refuse to cooperate,” .

According to her, the only means to end this abuse is to speak up.
