Actress Kemi Afolabi came from an average family and she is the first of three kids.she have two younger brothers. according her she said her childhood was fun and she enjoyed every bit of it.
In an interview with Punch ,Award-Winning actress Kemi disclosed her journey in life , challenges , acting career and her marriage, read the interview below:
When she was asked about her Education she said “I had my elementary education at Tunwashe Nursery and Primary School, Ikeja. Thereafter, I attended A to Z Secondary school for my post-elementary education and afterwards, I studied law at the University of Lagos. In my final year at the university, members of the creative arts department invited me to take part in a theatre production. This was because their department was close to the faculty of law.
Her Acting she said “When I started out, I really didn’t think that I could act. The first movie I took part in was a Yoruba production titled Alagba. Since then, I have featured in several other movies. Along the line, I got married and relocated abroad. I was away from 2008 to 2013. Since returning to Nigeria, my career has been on the rise.
Her most challenges she said “One of the major challenges that I have experienced as an actress is that my life is no longer private. People concoct different stories and because their audience like to feed on negative talk, they believe whatever they are told and don’t bother to verify its authenticity.
Her personality she said “I am one of the simplest persons that you can come across because there are no airs about me; what you see is what you get. Sometimes, I don’t even remember that I am an actress because my life is so straightforward. People say that I’m too frank and that just sums up my personality. These days, a lot of people live fake lives and nobody wants to call a spade a spade. I don’t want to be a part of that.
What she Likes and dislikes she said “I don’t like people who tell lies because I’m a very honest person. I also abhor people who live fake lives because when you claim to be what you are not, it’s not worth it in the end. Of course, I like candid people as well as those who have a good sense of humour.
She was also asked about her current projects and she stated “I just finished a cultural movie, Mo’dorisha. The movie brings to the fore, issues of domestic violence, rape and other issues affecting the female gender. We decided to come together to do something about it and ask the pertinent question: can there really be a world without men? Other themes explored in the movie include politics, authority, power and love.
Most importantly her Marriage and motherhood she said “marriage hasn’t in any way slowed down my acting career. If anything, it has enhanced it. I am not saying that there are no ups and downs but when you are married to your friend, things will certainly work out in your marriage and career. My husband has always provided the leadership and support structure that I need to succeed. As a wife and mother, I try to create a work-life balance so that no part of my life suffers at the expense of the other.
Finally she also asked about her Relaxation she said “When I am not working, I love to spend time with my family. You will find me cooking for my kids and husband. I also like to watch movies, including mine. I criticise my movies a lot and in the process, I learn one or two things that I could have done better. I am also open to criticisms from other people. In life, one has to keep learning. You are never too old to acquire knowledge. I am open to corrections because I know that’s the only way that I can be better at what I do.
