Dino Melaye, lawmaker representing Kogi west senatorial district, has surrendered to the police after Eight days of police laying siege outside his Abuja home.
The police had vowed not to leave Melaye’s residence without arresting him. He was accused of culpable homicide, an allegation he denied.
Some senators paid Dino a visit inside the Maitama home on Friday, January 4th and afterwards Eight days after the police laid siege outside his Abuja home escorted him to the Police headquarters to meet with the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.
The 8-day siege marked at least the fourth attempt to arrest Mr Melaye by the police in 2018.
The police alleged that Dino and his “thugs” attempted to murder a police officer in Kogi in July 2018.
A convoy of the Nigerian Police Force and over 70 police officers allegedly took Senator Dino Melaye from his house in Maitama to the Police Headquarters.
